Marta

Marta is surrounded by the wonderful frame of the Lake of Bolsena.

The lakeside on the left of the harbour leads to the historical area through a beautiful tree-lined avenue, on the right is the beach, with a view of the Martana Island on the horizon. The medieval hamlet is made of small houses and tiny streets.

Marta is famous for the Barabbata, a well knewn popular feast happening every 14th of May.
A thick crowd enjoys the pictoresque procession of peasants and fishmen with animals and carts which strolls from the harbour to the sanctuary of the Madonna del Monte, on the side of the village.
Here people enter and exit the church three times, kneeling to the image of the Blessed Mother as a thanksgiving for the products of the nature.
After the mess, local wine and food are offered: among those, the Cannaiola, a wine of ancient tradition.

Lake of Bolsena

The Lake of Bolsena is one of the few large lakes in Italy 100% suitable for bathing.
